“Many Hands Make Light Work”
HOW CAN YOU JOIN US? Let us Count the Ways!
· Volunteer Membership: Men, women and teens make up our volunteer corps of “island gardeners.” They weed, water, mulch, and do whatever it takes to maintain their own designated bed. As new islands are added the group at large works together to prepare and plant new community gardens. A team of 2-4 people are then assigned to keep the bed in good shape.
· Funding Membership/Financial Support: The suggested annual membership donation to Flowers in the Hills is $25.00 but contributions of any amount (more or less) are gratefully accepted. These funds are used to purchase plants, trellises, hoses, garden accents, and other needed materials.
· Water Source: Homes close to existing beds are needed to provide water throughout the spring and summer. Please let us know if you would be willing to offer your home as our water source!
· Use of Your Pickup Truck: Twice a year, we pick up and deliver mulch/compost to each bed. If we are working with only 1 truck, we must make 10 individual runs that from start to finish takes us approximately an hour and 15 minutes each. So it can take us 12 – 15 hours to get all beds covered! With more trucks, this chore can be accomplished in dramatically less time. So if you would be willing to make a run for us or loan us your truck for a load or two of mulch, please let us know!
